Cuadro de texto: Vision

From the beginning of human development, the evolution of humanity has been characterized by the need of individuals and groups to establish forms of social interaction, among other processes.

The spoken word, along with nonverbal communication and art have been the most important forms of individual and collective interaction of the human species. Also through the centuries, various forms of technologies for information and communication have enabled greater dissemination and amplification of voices as part of the process of “civilizing” humanity.

With the rise of patriarchy about 5,000 years ago, communication and information became integral to the hegemonic paradigm of domination that shaped human interactions as well as those of humans with other species.

The domination of women, communities, and nature was expressed through the construction of patriarchy in the colonization of Africa, America and Asia, among other regions, by imperialistic states; through the control of markets and production; in religious crusades; in the exploitation of the planet and its resources; and most recently in the globalization of the economy, politics, and culture, etc..

Communication and information have played a central role in the dynamic structures and exercise of power in the process of domination of the world, expressed through the imposition of languages, markets, religions and cultures; and the destruction of art, science, and the cultures of indigenous civilizations that were encountered by invaders. And as an integral part of these dynamics, women of all cultures were silenced, controlled, subordinated and devalued, including those in both dominant and dominated societies.

Part of the process of creating a patriarchal hegemony has consisted of the destruction of pre-patriarchal forms from the past, in which women had a central political and social place, symbolically and culturally equal to that of men, and both sexes interacted socially in collaborative and peaceful ways.

The subordination of women and the suppression of collaborative relationships, peaceful co-existence and cooperation have gone hand in hand in history. Likewise, history has demonstrated that many women resisted adopting totally the paradigm of domination as their own.
