"One Year of Intifadah,
One Moment Before War: Women
Offer Alternatives"
October 5, 2001
Topic
of discussion:
This
peacecast featured Palestinian and Israeli women of the Coalition for a
Just Peace, reporting online to the FIRE studios in Costa Rica via telephone
after the Women in Black Vigil that took place on the 5th of
October in Israel. The Coaliton of Women for Peace organized a mass vigil
of Women in Black - Israel that took place at the Megiddo Junction. The
vigil was the closing event of Bat Shalom's Sukkat Hashalom ["Tabernacle
of Peace"] that included 3 days of dialogue, political education and discussions
scheduled on: "One Year of Intifadah, One Moment Before War: Women Offer
Alternatives".
This
event was organized by Jewish and Palestinian women in the north of Israel
who have been active together for many years in Bat Shalom in the struggle
to end the occupation, against racism and discrimination in Israel, and
for a just political solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict.
Background:
The Women´s PEACECASTS Project grew from several existing ideas and
projects to rise to the occasion of the attack September 11 on the United
States. From an initial core of participants, it is designed to expand
outward and involve many and varied women in discussion across boundaries
of nations, groups,
philosophies, and also languages. The final
goal the project aims for is: Peace on Earth through realizing women's
values.
