MORE
DETAILS: DATE: The opening event will be on August 12 in
the evening, and the closing event will be on August 16 in the afternoon. Plan to arrive any time of day on August 12th.
There will be 4 nights in the hotel (Aug. 12, 13, 14, and 15). [We made it earlier in response to many
requests.]
PROGRAM:
The overall theme is "women and peacemaking", but we are
still shaping the name and concept together with our Palestinian colleagues. We want this to be a forum for activists and
academics both. Don't forget - this is not just a conference: Fact-finding tours and a vigil will be important components of the
event. More to come about the program.
EXHIBITION OF
YOUR POLITICAL WORK: Whether you come or not, please send us in
advance your group's flyers, posters, photos, stickers and anything
else your group has created to reflect your activities and concerns.
Details below about this major exhibition of women's political activity.
ACCOMMODATIONS: We are thrilled to announce
that we have booked wonderful space at excellent hotels (Knight's
Palace and Gloria). Both are clean, modest and welcoming.
They are Palestinian owned, and eager to host this conference.
These hotels are inside the Old City of Jerusalem (near Jaffa Gate),
just steps away from shops, restaurants, kiosks, the market, and
religious landmarks you have always heard about (al-Aqsa Mosque,
Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Western Wall, and many
more).
COSTS: We have received unprecedented low rates
for everything, and foundations will hopefully cover some costs.
As a result, we are able to charge $200 (or 155 Euro) per person, and
that will cover 4 nights in the hotel, 3 meals a day, conference rooms,
translations, printed materials, chartered buses, fact-finding
tours of the occupied territories, cultural events, and an amazing
political and personal experience. You will never again have
such an inexpensive opportunity to be in Jerusalem, engage politically, and have a
multi-cultural experience of a lifetime. [The price does not include airfare or transport to and from
airports, which participants will have to provide.]
STIPENDS:
We are working very hard to find funding to cover the costs of women
who cannot afford to attend. Priority will be given to women
peace activists from conflict zones who cannot afford to come on
their own. We encourage (beg) vigil groups to raise money to
send a representative to Jerusalem. We also welcome personal
contributions to our fund for bringing women from countries in conflict. Details below about how to
contribute.
Please
let us know by July 1, 2005 if you plan to attend, so we can reserve
space for you. To reserve space, write to

2005 __________________________________ Women in Black
Exhibition In conjunction with The 13th International
Conference of Women in Black to be held 12-16 August 2005 in Jerusalem, we will mount an exhibition of materials from Women in
Black groups from around the world.
We are soliciting your
group's flyers, posters and anything else your group has created,
reflecting your activities and concerns. Make sure your voice is
heard in Jerusalem - whether or not you attend! The exhibit will
provide an activist tool to inform, inspire and energize the
participants in the conference. It will present the voices of groups
unable to attend the conference. We plan to create a traveling
exhibit to go to other public spaces in Israel and around the world
to add our voices against military occupation, violence and terrorism
and for a just peace for all. Be sure to include identifying
information with or on your materials: * The
name of your group * The location - city and
country * Date of materials *
Your e-mail address (group or contact person)
Mail the materials, with the identifying information
